Haqiqat Rai or Haqiqat Singh

Today I will write about a great Shaheed Veer Haqiqat Singh Ji. He has been known as Veer Haqiqat Rai for more than 200 years. Historians have been writing him as a Hindu. But in reality he was an Amritdhari Sikh. He was grandson of Bhai Nand Lal Ji, a devoted Sikh of Guru Har Rai Ji. His maternal great grandfather was Bhai Kanhaiya Ji. His uncle (mother’s brother) Bhai Arjan Ji was also martyred. Sardar Kishan Singh Ji was his father-in-law. He was also a relative of Baba Banda Singh Ji Bahadur.

He was blamed that he used foul language against Prophet Hazarat Mohammad Sahib Ji. As a result, he was forced to embrace Islam. But he chose death and finally, he was martyred.

His father-in-law Sardar Kishan Singh, his brothers Mal Singh and Dal Singh and other Singhs killed that Qazi. Faujdar Amir Khan, who took Haqiqat Singh Ji to Lahore, was slain and his head was exhibited in streets of Batala.

Even now every year, at Basant Rut, there is a great mela at Batala Sahib.
